The Canadian dollar dipped to end the week while crude oil prices made modest gains.

The loonie closed at US$0.7042 or US$1=C$1.4201, compared to US$0.7052 or US$1=US$1.4181 on Thursday.

The United States Dollar Index was down 0.02 of a point at 100.84. Most U.S. markets were closed today due to the Independence Day holiday.

Crude oil prices were higher as uncertainty continues over a lasting peace between the U.S. and Iran.

West Texas Intermediate was up US$0.08 per barrel at US$68.78. Brent crude oil added US$0.32/barrel at US$72.12.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index jumped 308.17 points at 35,274.84 after the U.S. reported on Thursday there was lower unemployment in June.

Gold rose US$61.60 per ounce at US$4,187.30.
