The Canadian dollar made little movement on Thursday.
The loonie closed at US$0.7134 or US$1=C$1.4018 on Thursday, compared to US$0.7130 or US$1=US$1.4026 on Wednesday. The United States Dollar Index increased 0.27 of a point at 99.95.
Crude oil prices were higher as optimism over a potential new deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz turned to caution. Iran-backed Houthi rebels attacked two Saudi oil tankers on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday.
West Texas Intermediate gained US$2.52 per barrel at US$77.74. Brent crude oil rose US$3.45/barrel at US$82.90.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index stepped back from Wednesday’s all-time high, dipping 10.11 points at 36,136.31.
Gold was down US$0.30 per ounce at US$4,304.90.
