Trump calls Canadian dollar imbalance a trade concern

‘Unacceptable’: Trump calls Canadian dollar imbalance a trade concern

Donald Trump has recently denounced economies ties with Canada, calling the imbalance and the exchange rate of the Canadian dollar unacceptable. His latest remarks have fueled the ongoing trade dispute between the two countries.

Trump has posted a new announcement on Truth Social, “Canada’s (currency) Dollar imbalance with the U.S. is unacceptable. It has been that way for years – but no longer! President DJT”.

Amid growing trade tensions, Trump pledged to eliminate the exchange rate gap that makes Canadian goods cheaper in the US, citing a $ 48 billion goods deficit in 2025.

The US has imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian imports after key talks failed, with Canada plans matching countermeasures on September 8.

The recent post fuels fears of trade frictions, urging investors to evaluate their risk profiles to Canadian assets.

If markets interpret the statement as a sign of worsening US-Canada economic relations, sectors reliant on cross-border trade, and pulling down the ETF’s overall performance. Conversely, if the political speech that appeals to rhetoric rather than policy action, any impact on the fund might be brief and limited.
